Clay is a standout in the classroom, as well. The senior philosophy major owns a 2.94 cumulative GPA heading into his final year of study at UAB.

Clay has been recognized for efforts academically in his time on campus. He is a two-time member of the Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll. Student-athletes named to the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better.

Character

As a junior, Clay was named team captain of the 2013 UAB men’s soccer team in a vote by his teammates. Clay was once again named a team captain for the 2014 season.

Clay also displays an incredible amount of sportsmanship on the pitch. The Huntsville, Ala native recorded only one yellow card and was not issued a red card in 1276 minutes on the field in 2013. In fact, Clay has only received two yellow cards and has never been given a red card in his three seasons as a Blazer.

Community

Like many members of the UAB men’s soccer team, Clay donates his time to charity. In every season he has been in Birmingham, Clay has visited the Children’s Hospital in conjunction with the UAB “Soccer for a Cure” Classic. There, he spends a day with the children, playing games, signing autographs, and much more.

Competition

On the field, Clay is arguably one of the best players in Conference USA. Heading into the 2014 season, Clay was named to the 2014 Preseason All-Conference USA Team.

Clay earned the inaugural Conference USA Golden Boot Award in 2013 after scoring a league-high seven goals in conference play. The Huntsville, Ala. native was second on the team in scoring, tallying 22 points on eight goals and six assists. Clay earned 2013 All-Conference USA and 2013 All-Midwest Region honors. In addition, he was named the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week following a five-point week against Belmont and Kentucky last season.
