Alex Turner is double majoring in psychology and multidisciplinary studies (neuroscience). He sports a 3.60 cumulative GPA, and his anticipated field of postgraduate study is PhD Medical School as he is scheduled to graduate in December of 2019. Turner is a 2019 National Football Foundation Campbell Trophy Nominee (semifinalist in 2018). He is also a six-time ECU Director of Athletics Honor Roll member, with four honors on the dean’s list and two on the honor roll. Turner is a two-time Google Cloud (CoSIDA) Academic All-District-3 First Team honoree (2017, 2018), a three-time American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team honoree (2016-17, 2017-18, 2018-19) and the winner of the 2018 Jerry T. Brooks Award (ECU Academic Achievement).

Character

Turner is a team leader on and off the field and has been designated as a team captain in 2019. He also won the ECU Winning Edge Award in 2018 for outstanding attitude.

Community

Turner is a 2019 AllState AFCA Good Works Nominee for the second straight season. He has volunteered with programs and organizations (over 100 career hours) such as Aces of Autism, Special Olympics, Vidant Children’s Hospital, Red Cross blood drive, Cypress Glen Retirement Home, Stokes Elementary School, annual Goldspy’s, ECU Freshman Orientation, ECU Baseball Banquet and football clinics.

Competition

Turner has been named as a 2019 Athlon Preseason All-American Athletic Conference selection (third team). He is a two-time ECU Defensive Big Man of the Year (2017, 2018). In his career, Turner has booked 69 tackles (28 solo), tallied 12.0 TFLs, 5.0 sacks, forced one fumble and one pass breakup, as well as two quarterback hurries. In 2018, he was credited with 47 tackles (18 solo), which included 10.5 TFLs and 4.0 sacks. He stood 13th in The AAC in TFLs a year ago. He had multiple tackles in 8 of 12 games and at least one in 10 contests in 2018. He registered a career-high eight stops at Temple in 2018 and registered at least one tackle in 22 of 29 career games played.
