Alexa Ben’s achievements in the classroom include the following honors: 2016 NSCAA Scholar-Athlete All-America Second Team, 2016 NSCAA Scholar-Athlete All-Region First Team, 2015 CoSIDA Academic All-District Second Team, and a three-time member of the BIG EAST All-Academic Team.

Character

Ben is a current captain of DePaul’s women’s soccer team. She is the epitome of a good teammate and always seeks the best interest of the team. She represents all of the core values of the program in a very positive way. She is loyal, respectful, hard-working, driven and willing to make sacrifices for the good of the team and program. Ben is also a joy to be around. She’s able to appreciate all of the wonderful opportunities she has because she is a Division I student-athlete. Her appreciation for this opportunity is visible daily.  

Community

Ben has been incredibly active in community service with DePaul’s women’s soccer program. Whether it has been collecting money for misercordia, building gardens or running soccer clinics she has a wonderful community presence. She is extremely involved in the team’s relationship with Depaul’s TEAM IMPACT member, Melinda. DePaul’s women’s soccer team does activities with Melinda at least once a month, and Ben is always great at interacting with Melinda and making her feel special. It is through this community service where you are able to see her wonderful personality and zest for life. She is incredibly compassionate, caring and giving. 

Competition

Ben has received almost every award possible during her career at DePaul. She was the Big East Freshman of the Year, Big East Midfielder of the Year (2016), first-team All-Conference (2015, 2016), NSCAA All-Northeast Region (first team in 2016, second team in 2015, third team in 2014) and NSCAA All-American Third Team (2016). Ben is the toughest competitor on the team and plays at a different level. She is a student of the game and has an incredible toughness and work ethic every time she steps on the field, whether in training or a game. She holds herself to an incredibly high standard and is committed to her development. Ben has been one of the main reasons DePaul’s program has reached the NCAA Tournament and won conference championships. She is the ultimate competitor. She will have the wonderful opportunity to continue her career professionally upon graduation and will excel at the next level due to her talent, competitive drive and motivation.
