Classroom

Dobbs carries a 3.81 cumulative GPA as a public health major and biology minor. She is a two-time Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year, two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District Team selection and two-time Academic All-Patriot League selection. Dobbs was also honored on the University’s Dean’s List four times, which requires a minimum of 15 credit hours and 3.67 GPA. She has been named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in each of her three seasons at American. Dobbs has also been in the top 10 percent of all American student-athletes academically in each of the last three years.

Character

Dobbs has served as team captain of the American women’s basketball team since her sophomore year, providing leadership on and off the court. She was also a “Big Sister” to Kayla Wenger, an 11-year-old who was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer, and her younger siblings as they struggled through the last year of her life. Dobbs has also been an adviser at the Sports Challenge Leadership Academy since July 2012, teaching sports psychology and conflict resolution courses in addition to serving as a mentor for eight girls in the basketball program. This past summer she interned for the National Organization on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, participating in direct service outreach and helping with advocacy and outreach. Dobbs was also selected to serve on the AU Academic Integrity Code panel, assisting as the University’s student representative sworn to provide a fair and unbiased assessment of an academic integrity case.

Community

Dobbs has contributed over 30+ hours of community in the Washington, D.C. metro area, volunteering at Ballou High School, the DC Central Kitchen and Taste of Friendship Heights playing basketball with young children in the community. In addition to serving as a “Big Sister” to Kayla Wenger (mentioned above), she coordinated home visits for the entire team to hang out with Kayla and her family and helped organize fun activities for her family whenever they attended games during the 2011-12 season. Dobbs also helped with the creation of the AU Kids Club in memory of Kayla and continuously interacts with the children in the club at games and the Kids4Kayla Clinic hosted each year. She coached a girls basketball team at the Sports Challenge Leadership Academy and helped devise practice plans and skill work sessions for the attendees.

Competition

Dobbs was a 2012 All-Patriot League Second Team selection, 2011 All-Patriot League First Team honoree and was named to the Patriot League All-Rookie Team in 2010. She ranks eighth all-time at American with 281 career assists, third in career made three-pointers (158), fifth in three-point percentage (36.0) and 10th in free throw percentage (75.5). She has appeared in 90 career games, starting 86, and is averaging 9.6 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 3.1 apg and 1.8 spg so far in her career. Last season she led the Patriot League with 2.0 spg and a 1.7 assist/turnover ratio. Dobbs ranked second in the conference for the 2012-13 season in assists (3.9), fourth in three-pointers made (1.9), fifth in three-point field goal percentage (36.1) and ninth in scoring (11.0).
