Allazia Blockton is majoring is advertising with a minor in biological sciences and will graduate in May 2019. Her current GPA is a 3.6, and she has been on the BIG EAST All-Academic Team her freshmen, sophomore and junior years. Academically, she is part of the Chi Alpha Sigma honors society, which is a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher. Blockton received BIG EAST Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2018.

Character

Blockton is an incredible leader and teammate. Her on-court presence cannot be matched, and often how she goes, her teammates will follow. She is a hard worker and fantastic motivator. Her enthusiasm is noticeable both on the court and on the bench. She is focused on making those around her better.

Community

Blockton is involved in an array of community service initiatives. Every September, she has assisted with the Brigg’s and Al’s Walk & Run, which is a fundraiser for the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. She has now helped out with that cause for four straight years. On two different occasions, Blockton has also volunteered at the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure that is hosted on Milwaukee’s lakefront in the fall. Blockton and her teammates served as volunteers to spend time with cancer survivors before they walked across the Milwaukee Art Museum’s bridge before the start of the race.

In addition to these two big events, she has also volunteered at other organizations including Boys & Girls Club, Girl Scouts, Campus Kitchens, Hunger Clean Up, Stuff the Truck and at a number of elementary and middle schools in the Milwaukee area during recess or welcoming kids back for a new year/semester. On average, Blockton is giving back to her community about 15 hours per year. She is the SAAC women’s basketball representative for the BIG EAST Conference and has attended the NCAA meetings. Blockton is also a MAGIS Mentor for Marquette’s mentor program, helping a high achieving freshman student-athlete transition into Marquette.

Competition

Entering her final season, Blockton is ranked third all-time on the Marquette scoring list with 1,774 career points and is poised to become the all-time leader, surpassing 1,940 points early in the season. She is on pace to become Marquette’s first 2,000-point scorer, male or female. Blockton was selected as the unanimous 2018-19 BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year and is the reigning BIG EAST Player of the Year. Blockton broke Marquette’s single-season scoring record in the 2017-18 season with 648 points. She is a two-time WBCA honorable mention All-American and led Marquette with 34 points in the NCAA Tournament second round loss at Louisville, which broke a Marquette record for points scored in the NCAA Tournament. Blockton is on the 20-person Ann Meyers Drysdale Watch List for the season and is a two-time unanimous All-BIG EAST First Team selection. Early in her career, she was tabbed as BIG EAST Freshman of the Year, while breaking a conference scoring record with 337 points in BIG EAST play.
