Allie Barber

Classroom

Allie Barber excels in the classroom. She is a model student with a 3.98 GPA in biomedical sciences and has plans to go to medical school upon graduation. Barber earned Google Cloud Academic All-American and All-District First Team honors in 2018. She has earned Academic All-BIG EAST Honors in all three years and is an Alpha Sigma Nu and Chi Alpha Sigma member. Barber is on the College of Health Sciences Dean’s List.

Character

Barber has numerous qualities that make her an extraordinary person and a few stand out. First and foremost, she is the captain and leader of the team. Barber will put teammates’ needs ahead of her own. She is focused on team success, chemistry and culture. Barber frequently visits Coach Theis’ office to help control the culture of the volleyball program. There will always be circumstances in sport and work that create conflict, and Barber will stand up and help to resolve the conflict. She will sacrifice for the benefit of the team. Coach Theis says that he hasn’t had as effective of a captain as Barber in 10 years. He has yet to find a person who commands the respect of all 15 players on the team the way Barber does. Barber was officially named team captain in January of 2018.

Community

Barber volunteers at the Milwaukee Miracle League in the summer, playing baseball with the children. She volunteered to go on a student-athlete service trip to Costa Rica in May 2018 and participated in Courts for Kids, through which she helped build basketball courts. She is a SAAC representative and has volunteered as a cook for Campus Kitchens. Barber is also a human gross anatomy volunteer.

Competition

Barber was named to the AVCA All-America Second Team in 2018 as well as the AVCA East Coast Player of the Year. She was a first-team All-Big East selection and named to the Big East All-Tournament team in 2018. She has more than 1,000 career kills and will challenge for Marquette’s all-time kills record in her final season. Prior to the start of the season, Barber was named 2019 Big East Preseason Player of the Year. In her career she has earned Big East Freshman of the Year honors and was also the Big East Player of the Year in 2017.
