Classroom

Allie Thornton has worked hard in the classroom throughout her years at SMU. She holds a strong 3.723 GPA and will be graduating in three and a half years this December 2019 with a B.S. in Applied Physiology and Sport Management. Her passion for sports extends beyond the pitch and has helped her excel in the sport management undergraduate program, which holds high distinction at SMU. Thornton has also been named to the SMU Honor Roll for three of her six completed semesters. Once she is done with her time playing soccer, she would like to work in soccer-related personal training. Her goal is to work in intimate settings so that she is able to pass on what she has learned from all of her coaches throughout the years.

Character

Thornton has shown her character both on and off the pitch, which is evident in her selection as a senior captain. Even after suffering an injury in which she tore her MCL before her junior year, Thornton has served as a role model for her teammates by working to represent SMU on a deeper level through their six core values of service, passion, integrity, respect, innovation and teamwork. She feels that getting to play at SMU means being part of something bigger than herself. Her close relationship with her parents has been a large part of her success as a player and a person. Her biggest goal for the season is to promote team unity, which includes fighting for each other, playing for each other and winning for each other. She is supportive of her teammate and does a fantastic job of reminding them to be appreciative of their opportunity at SMU.

Community

It has always been about more than just herself for Thornton. She leads by example, works to uplift others and makes sure to be a light throughout the Mustang community. In high school, she served as a leadership mentor and was part of the National Leadership Academy. During her time at SMU, she has worked to build her personal brand by serving both the team and her school in ways that promote what being a Mustang really is. She strives to excel for the sake of the school and the athletic department.

Competition

Thornton has been a standout on the pitch since her freshman year, being named to the All-AAC First Team the past three years and earning All-AAC Preseason Honors in unanimous fashion for 2019. She was also selected to the All-Rookie team her freshman year and was a 2018 United Soccer Coaches All-Region member. She led the team in goals both her freshman and junior years, tallying 10 both years. Her sophomore year, she led SMU in shots with 61 and shots on goal with 23. Thornton has scored 26 goals throughout her career for the Mustangs, seven of which have been game-winning goals. Through her first three years on the team, she played and started in 59 total matches.
