Amanda Scarborough

Classroom

Amanda is a two-time Academic All-Big 12 first team selection. She was named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America first team in 2006 and second team in 2007. She has been honored as a Texas A&M/Verizon Scholar Athlete at A&M’s annual CHAMPS Awards Banquet for the past three years. Amanda, who is majoring in communications with a minor in business administration, boasts a 3.602 GPA and is expected to graduate in December of 2008 after completing a summer internship. Following graduation, she plans to return to A&M to be a graduate assistant with the softball team, as she will start graduate school in January of 2009 pursuing a Masters degree in Sport Management.

Character

Amanda is serving her second year as team co-captain, as voted on by her teammates, showing the great amount of respect her peers have in her leadership abilities. Her work ethic is unmatched. She puts in the extra time to not only better herself, but her team as well. With every award Amanda has received, she has been quick to credit her teammates and coaches in her success. She takes great pride in playing softball at Texas A&M and represents the university well.

Community

Amanda is heavily involved in Bryan/College Station and makes it a point to give back to the community that supports her. She is active in Aggie Athletes Involved, which promotes community service through various outlets in the local area. One of those outlets is H.O.S.T.S (Help One Student to Succeed), which Amanda takes part in. H.O.S.T.S. mentors meet once a week for 30 minutes with a student, helping them master their reading, writing, and spelling skills. Amanda is also a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). FCA focuses on serving local communities by equipping, empowering and encouraging people to make a difference for Christ, through their core values, integrity, serving, teamwork, and excellence. She also completed an internship with the Major League Baseball Alumni Association in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Competition

Amanda is a two-time All-American and was a finalist for USA Softball’s National Player of the Year Award in 2007. She is a three-time All-Big 12 first team selection and was named the conference’s Co-Pitcher of the Year as a junior and Big 12 Freshman of the Year and Player of the Year in 2005. Over the past three seasons, she has earned numerous Pitcher and Player of the Week honors from the Big 12, ESPN.com/USA Softball, and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. She posted a 26-10 record last season en route to leading her team to its first NCAA Women’s College World Series appearance in 19 years. To date Scarborough owns a 1.40 ERA through 98 appearances collecting 26 complete game shutouts along the way. To complement her stellar pitching performances, Amanda is a consistent threat at the plate. She carries a career .348 batting average, driving in 117 RBIs off 40 doubles, six triples and 23 homeruns.
