Classroom

This past summer, Davis was invited to the NCAA Career in Sports Forum, only 300 student-athletes from Division I, II and III. Davis was named to the NSCAA Scholar All-North/Central Region Second Team in 2012. She has been named to The Summit League’s Commissioner’s List in each of her three years as well as being named All-Summit League Academic Team in 2012. In addition, She has been named to the Summit League Fall Academic Honor Roll for three years and has earned Distinguished Scholar Honors. She was one of fifty Leathernecks to be awarded the WIU Provost Award in 2013 (junior or senior with 3.5 GPA or higher). A double major in Exercise Science and Recreation, Parks and Tourism Administration, Davis has a GPA of 3.723.  She earned a perfect 4.0 GPA in the Fall of 2011 and Fall of 2012 and has earned semester honors on four occasions. She is on track to graduate in May with degrees in Exercise Science and Recreation, Parks and Tourism Administration.

Character

Already named a team captain for the upcoming 2013 season, Davis began her career as a forward, recording seven points (fourth on the team).  Her three goals during her freshmen campaign were third best during the 2010 season.  After a four-goal sophomore year, Davis transitioned to a defensive role, anchoring a 2012 Leatherneck defense that tied a program-best nine shutouts and allowed a program-best .646 goals per game (19th in the nation). After her junior season, she was invited to the NCAA Career in Sport Forum. She was one of only 300 student-athletes invited to the conference.

Community

Davis has assisted the community in numerous ways. She has helped out at the local animal shelter and has also volunteered at the Special Olympics. She has also participated in Rocky’s Reach, a mentoring program where student-athletes mentor local children. As a team, Davis has helped raise money for the Special Olympics and the annual Summit League Food Fight Competition. She helped plant trees at Horn Field Campus, a local park sponsored by the university, last semester. Two years ago, Davis and the rest of the soccer team put together “Trains for Shaymus,” a fundraiser for their former coach’s son who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL).

Competition

The forward-turned-defender was named the team’s Newcomer of the Year in 2010 and Team MVP and Forward of the Year in 2011. She ranks just outside the top 10 in Western Illinois history in goals and game-winning goals despite only playing two years as a forward. She was named First Team All-Summit League in 2012, helping the Leathernecks to a 13-win season, the second best win total in program history. After sporadic appearances defensively in her first two years, Davis now is the centerback for a defense that set or tied multiple records including goals against average and shutouts.
