Amber Seaman entered the 2019 season as a two-time MAC Women’s Volleyball Distinguished Scholar Athlete (2017, 2018) and a two-time Academic All-MAC honoree (2017, 2018). She has earned recognition on the dean’s list (3.5 GPA or higher) for seven of the eight semesters she has been enrolled at Ball State.

Character

Seaman has been a leader for the program from the moment she arrived at Ball State. She joined the Ball State women’s volleyball program for the 2016 spring semester after completing her course work at Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School a semester early and took over the starting setter role as a freshman in the fall of 2016. She has been the team’s floor captain for each of her four seasons, and in addition to guiding the Ball State offense this season, Seaman is helping guide the development of the program’s nine-member freshman class.

Community

Seaman has been involved in numerous community service projects during her time at Ball State. She has worked with Ball State’s Dance Marathon program since 2016 and volunteered at A Better Way since 2017. She’s also volunteered at the Muncie Animal Shelter and been involved in various community service projects for Ball State Athletics, including the department’s Cardinal Kids Club.

Competition

Seaman became the first player in program history to earn Mid-American Conference Setter of the Year honors after she guided the Cardinals to a MAC-best .235 attack percentage in 2018. The effort was also the 12th-best single-season mark in program history. A 2018 All-MAC First Team honoree and a 2017 All-MAC Honorable Mention selection, Seaman currently ranks sixth in program history in career assists and career assists-per-set average and is 10th in career service aces. In the first year of the award last season, Seaman was a five-time MAC West Division Setter of the Week (Aug. 27, Oct. 1, Oct. 8, Oct. 15, Oct. 29).

As of nomination time, she has played in 93 of a possible 99 matches over her career, while seeing action in 344 of a possible 386 sets over her career. Seaman has dished out a career-high 57 assists on two occasions: vs. Appalachian State (Sept. 10, 2016) and vs. Central Michigan (Sept. 23, 2016). Her career-high 22 digs at Fort Wayne (Aug. 27, 2016) are the most for a Ball State setter in a match in the rally scoring era (2001-present). She has also collected 32 career assist/dig double doubles, while recording 30 or more assists on 71 occasions, 40 or more 41 times and 50 or more in 15 matches.
