Classroom

Dubovec maintains a 3.93 GPA in applied mathematics. She is a two-time ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree and earned first team honors last season. Dubovec was named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Softball Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2010 and has made the Dean’s List every semester. Dubovec has been named to the NEC Academic honor roll all three years and was named to the NEC Commissioner’s honor roll in each of the past two seasons. Dubovec, who is earning a minor in actuarial science, is also in the process of acquiring her teaching certificate and aspires to be a math teacher or professor.

Character

While the transition for any athlete to the collegiate level can be challenging, Dubovec was put in an even tougher spot as she was forced to miss the fall of her freshman year because of an ACL injury. However, Dubovec responded to such adversity admirably as she hit .351 with a .514 slugging percentage and earned all-conference recognition in her rookie season despite the missed time. “Annie is an extremely hardworking and conscientious individual both on and off the field,” head coach Craig Coleman said. “She has great compassion and inspires great friendship in those around her.”

Community

Dubovec has volunteered for numerous causes during her intercollegiate career — both softball and non-softball related. She has donated her time each of the past three summers to help coach a youth softball team near her hometown. She has also helped out at a Cleveland-area camp for mentally-disabled youths whom she helps mentor and tutor. Dubovec has also contributed to many worthwhile causes while on campus. This past December she organized and helped lead a university-wide drive to send letters and food to soldiers in Iraq that hail from one of the local western Pennsylvania units. As part of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, of which she has been a member since its founding on campus, Dubovec has provided a helping hand in multiple situations. She recently donated time to put up holiday decorations at a local institute that provides care for abused and neglected children and she also has participated in ‘Toys for Tots’ drives. Dubovec helped create and develop the idea of a ‘Math Field Day’ in which she hosted middle-school and high-school students on campus to provide educational lessons.

Competition

Dubovec came onto the scene strong in 2008 as she hit .351 in her freshman season and displayed remarkable poise for a rookie, including a game-winning home run with two outs in the 10th inning of a conference postseason elimination game that kept RMU’s season alive. Dubovec, who has also been a pitcher throughout her time at Robert Morris, added another aspect to her game in 2009 when she finished among the conference top 10 in opposing batting average. In 2010, she put together her finest season yet, ranking among the top 10 in the NEC in both batting average and RBI as she posted team-leading totals of .359 and 39, respectively. Dubovec was even better in tighter situations as she hit .393 with runners on, .453 with runners in scoring position and .500 with the bases loaded and registered a team-best 25 two-out RBI. Her standout 2010 campaign earned Dubovec All-NEC first-team honors, which marked the second conference award of her career.
