Classroom

Scott is presently majoring in public relations, while also minoring in business and liberal arts. Scott has maintained a 3.8 GPA in her major, while securing above a 3.2 cumulative GPA. For her efforts in the classroom, Scott earned Academic All-Big Ten honors in 2012 and was also selected as a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar for the 2012-13 school year. She is an active member of the Penn State Chapter of the Public Relations Society of American and regularly performs community outreach for the Jimmirro Center for the Study of Media Influence.

Character

Along with her leadership role on the court as the starting right side hitter, since her first year on campus, Scott has assisted in the organization and promotion of “Happy Volley,” a very large club tournament for high school volleyball players. Each year of camp, Scott has served as both a coach and counselor to young campers. Since her freshman year, Scott also volunteers regularly with the Special Olympics, working to teach participants basic volleyball skills. She also organizes outreach opportunities for Special Olympians through the Penn State Women’s Volleyball program. On the court, Scott was a member of the 2010 National Championship team, and was the starting right side hitter during the 2012 season, where she helped guide her team to a spot in the NCAA National Semifinals and the Nittany Lions’ 15th Big Ten title.

Community

In addition to her work with the Special Olympics and various Penn State Volleyball camps, Scott served as a volunteer teaching assistant at Houserville Elementary School in 2012. While at Houserville Elementary, Scott was in charge of assisting fourth grade students with their reading and writing skills. During the 2012 season, Scott regularly assisted with the organization of donations and distribution of food as a volunteer at the State College Area Food Bank. She also assisted with the creation of community outreach programs, designed to encourage volunteering at the food bank.

Competition

Scott has received numerous awards for her efforts on the court. Scott earned Third Team AVCA All-American honors in 2011 and followed with First Team AVCA All-American honors in 2012. During the 2012 season, Scott also eclipsed the 1,000 career kills mark and earned Volleyball Magazine First Team All-America honors, as well as AVCA Mideast Region accolades.  In 2011 and 2012, Scott was a unanimous All Big Ten Selection, earning Big Ten Player of the Year honors in 2012. Scott was a member of the 2010 National Champion team in her first year as a Nittany Lion. Following a 25-8 record in 2011, Scott returned to the court as the starting right side hitter in 2012 and helped guide PSU to its 15th Big Ten title in program history and a 33-3 record. Scott also earned NCAA West Lafayette Regional Championship MVP honors, after helping her team secure a spot in the NCAA National Semifinals.
