Hagemann enters her senior season having already earned CoSIDA Academic All-America honors, as she was a second-team selection as a junior in 2011. Hagemann, who carries a 3.639 GPA as an elementary education major, also earned a spot on the academic all-district first team in 2011 and second team in 2010. In addition to her regional and national academic honors, Hagemann is a two-time, first-team academic All-Big 12 selection and earned five appointments to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll during Nebraska’s time in the conference. She earned a high honors academic medallion at the 2011 Nebraska student-athlete recognition banquet, after taking home an honors academic medallion in 2010. Hagemann was also the recipient of the Julie Geis Memorial Scholarship for the 2010-11 season.

Character

Hagemann has demonstrated outstanding character in her Husker career. Injuries and an influx of youth have forced Hagemann to throw more than 500 innings the past two seasons, but she has been happy to shoulder the workload for her team, putting in extra conditioning to build strength and endurance. She stepped up for her team and pitched in 48 of Nebraska’s 55 games last season, earning 31 wins and a pair of saves. A talented hitter in high school, Hagemann made the sacrifice to give up batting during her sophomore season so she could focus her attention on her pitching where the team needed her most. The results paid dividends as after having a career ERA of 3.26 through her first two seasons, Hagemann posted a mark of 1.75 in 2011. Her leadership played a key role in Nebraska posting its best finish in five seasons in 2011.

Community

As an elementary education major, Hagemann has been happy to volunteer her time with area youth. Hagemann has spent each of the past four years coaching a youth softball team and serving as a volunteer at various Lincoln elementary schools. She also served as a two-year volunteer to raise money for the Friendship Home, which provides support and shelter for women and children who are victims of domestic violence. Hagemann also volunteer at Angel Food Ministries in 2009. Hagemann has also been active in the community as part of Nebraska’s team efforts, including participating in walks and fundraisers to raise money for cancer research. Her efforts helped the softball team take home top honors in the NCAA-sponsored Life Skills team competition for the 2010-11 school year, which annually honors Nebraska’s most active team in the community.

Competition

Hagemann enters the 2012 season as one of the nation’s top returning pitchers after earning first-team all-conference and second-team all-region honors in 2011. Her first-team all-conference award was particularly noteworthy, as the Big 12 Conference featured five pitchers who earned first- or second-team All-America honors in 2011. Hagemann posted a 31-13 record with a 1.75 ERA and 344 strikeouts in her junior season. She ranked eighth nationally in strikeouts and 10th in wins, while setting Nebraska junior class records in wins, strikeouts, innings pitched and complete games. Overall, Hagemann’s numbers from the 2011 season ranked second in school history in strikeouts, third in wins, fourth in complete games and fifth in innings pitched. She enters her senior season ranked seventh in Husker history in strikeouts, eighth in wins and saves, ninth in innings pitched and 10th in shutouts. Hagemann also holds the Nebraska record for strikeouts in a seven-inning game (19) and earned two Big 12 Pitcher-of-the-Week honors in the Huskers’ three seasons in the league.
