Classroom

Ashley Smith is a standout student-athlete. She is a two-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection who has maintained a GPA of 3.88 entering her senior year. Smith is majoring in marketing and has posted a 4.0 during three of her semesters on campus. She also has been a part of the dean’s list during five semesters in Fort Worth and been honored with the TCU Scholar-Athlete of the Year and TCU Pop Boone Athlete of the Year awards. Smith has been a member of TCU SAAC Committee and is currently serving as vice president.

Character

Smith has been a leader on and off the court for TCU and a positive force for the Horned Frogs volleyball program. After leading the team offensively the last three seasons, Smith started as libero this season while she was still rehabbing a knee injury suffered in the NCAA Tournament in 2015. When it was time to move back to outside hitter, Smith waited patiently and was the best teammate on the bench for her team. When her chance came to get back into the rotation, Smith seized the opportunity and helped lead the team to an upset of a top-10 ranked opponent. Her leadership on the court is second to none and her guidance off the court has led to the best team culture TCU has seen in the history of its volleyball program.

Community

During all of her years in Fort Worth, Smith has been very active in the community. As a student in the Neeley School of Business, Smith has volunteered her time throughout the school and has been helping students build their resumes. She has been volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House the last two seasons and has been a part of the team’s visits to the Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth. Smith also has taken time to go to local elementary schools and participate in reading programs every spring.

Competition

Only three matches during the last four seasons have not featured Smith, as she has been the offensive leader and a steady presence on the court for TCU. A 2015 honorable mention AVCA All-American, Smith will become the 10th player in TCU volleyball history to reach 1,000 kills during her career and could become the fifth player in program history to reach 1,000 digs as well. A two-time All-Big 12 selection, Smith led the team to the NCAA Tournament last season for the only the second time in program history and helped the team score the first victories over top-10 teams in program history the last two years. Smith has totaled 26 double-doubles so far in her career, which ranks ninth in program history and has been named to eight all-tournament teams during her career.
