Classroom

Sheleg has a 3.58 GPA as an international business major. He has been named to the MAAC Academic Honor Roll twice, to the MAAC Men’s Soccer All-Academic team twice and to the Saint Peter’s College Athletic Director’s Academic Honor Roll twice. He will be graduating in May 2010 and will be looking to coach soccer and enter the business world.

Character

Sheleg is always there to do what needs to be done for his teammates, the program, the athletics department and the school. He was captain of the U-19 soccer academy in Netania, Israel, and has been the captain of the SPC men’s soccer team for the past three years. He spent three years in the Israeli Military, which made it very hard for him to also play soccer at a competitive level. Due to that he almost quit playing, but the love of the game kept him involved in the sport. He also had trouble with the language barrier after coming to America and enrolling in college-level classes, but he overcame that as well. He is a team leader on and off the field and one of the best captains Saint Peter’s soccer has ever seen.

Community

Sheleg is a volunteer with children in his kibutz (community) every summer. He coaches them in soccer and also shows them how to be successful not just as a soccer player, but as people. He is also the leader of his team as far as community service goes. Sheleg feels it is very important to be well connected with the SPC community and to contribute to the school’s efforts of supporting righteous causes, such as breast cancer awareness or getting donations for needy children around the holidays. The men’s soccer team is always at the top of the list when it comes to service time and money raised.

Competition

Sheleg is the anchor of a defense that has been one of the best in the MAAC and in the region during his career. He has been named to the Jewish Sports Review All-America Team twice, to the All-MAAC first team twice and was named to the 2009 MAAC Preseason Team. During his career, the Peacocks have a 1.27 GAA and have recorded 21 shutouts. He led the Peacocks to back-to-back MAAC Championship games and the 2007 NCAA Tournament as an at-large team. The at-large bid was the first in Saint Peter’s College history in any sport.
