High Point University
Position
Goalkeeper

Nonprofit Leadership and Management

Classroom

Geisler is a senior majoring in nonprofit leadership and management. He is a two-time Millis Scholar Athlete, which honors High Point student-athletes who hold a cumulative grade-point average over 3.0. In his time at High Point, Geisler has compiled a 3.248 GPA.

When he transferred to HPU, Geisler had the choices of sociology, anthropology and non-profit leadership and management to declare as a major. He chose non-profit leadership and management because it would give him the best skills and knowledge to apply to post-graduate life. He plans to use the knowledge gained from his major to start a lacrosse organization in an underdeveloped part of the country.

Character

“Austin Geisler is one of the most sincere, hardworking and genuine young men I have ever had the opportunity to coach. Austin is constantly striving for ways to not only better himself, but also his peers and the people associated with our program and community. It is not uncommon for Austin to be on the field an hour after practice continuing to work on his game. It is also not uncommon for Austin to spend countless hours in the off-season working on community service projects. Austin comes from an amazing family with extremely humble and hard-working people that have made him the man he has become. He will be a success no matter what endeavor he chooses after college. There is no doubt in my mind that he embodies every quality the Senior Class Award entails.” - Head Coach Jon Torpey

Community

The redshirt-senior has been heavily involved in the High Point community since transferring from the University of Virginia in 2012. Geisler has been involved in Big Brothers Big Sisters and enjoys the opportunity to work with and mentor the children. Geisler and the HPU men’s lacrosse team have been influential in building the athletic department’s involvement in the Salvation Army’s Stuff-a-Stocking program. Spearheaded by the men’s lacrosse team, the university stuffed 726 stockings, which was well above its goal.

Along with his teammates, Geisler has volunteered for the Special Olympics, worked in local homeless shelters and visited the local children’s hospital. He says that those opportunities to make a difference in the community as a member of an athletic team is something he will cherish when his time at High Point ends.

Competition

Geisler is one of the nation’s top goalkeepers. Last season he was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Defensive Player of the Year. He finished second in the nation in saves per game (13.63) and was fifth in the country with a 59.2 save percentage. He led the conference in both of those categories and in the goals against average with 9.48. Geisler won A-Sun Defensive Player of the Week five times and led the team to a 9-7 record and a regular season A-Sun co-championship. He had a career high 20 saves in a game against Drexel last season. Prior to the 2015 season he became one of the first two players in High Point men’s lacrosse history to be selected in the Major League Lacrosse Draft, being selected by the Ohio Machine in the seventh round.
