Classroom

Heteniak carries a 3.71 GPA in mathematics and is a four time Big East All-Academic selection. She made first team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District and has been on the Dean’s List for four years. She is also a National Collegiate Scholar Society member, Gold & Key Honor Society member, and Honors College for Academics member.

Character

Heteniak is a team captain for DePaul. She has been a mentor for younger pitchers and works in One-On-One Peer Partnership.

Community

Heteniak has been involved in a community service project each quarter. She was a part of a Breast Cancer Walk that raised money for research. She worked with the Young People’s Project and also worked with innercity Chicago elementary school students on their study habits. She worked with the Dream Halloween Party to raise funds for Children’s AIDS Research, and is a pen pal for the English-As-A-Second-Language program. Becca Heteniak: “What I like about DePaul are the all good things the university does in getting involved with our community. You help children discover what a wonderful place Chicago can be, and hopefully pass on some life skills and motivation to become a high achiever. It’s a wonderful feeling to be a role model for kids.”

Competition

In 2007 Heteniak was named Big East Rookie of the Year, first team All Big East, and Big East All-Academic team member. She also was named to the third team National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American team. She added even more honors in her 2008 season. Heteniak was named Big East Conference Pitcher of the Year, Big East Championship Most Valuable Player, Big East All-Academic team, and was a member of the Big East Championship All-Tournament team. She was named to the Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association first team All-Mideast region and the American Softball Association’s pre-season Top 50 Watch List. She has also earned Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I National Player of the Week and USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the week honors.
