Classroom

In the classroom Anderson has been an honor roll student in all but one of her semesters, carrying a cumulative GPA of 3.571 through 7 semesters.  She has been named to the Dean’s List, is an endowed scholarship recipient and a top academic performer.  An accounting major, Anderson performed so well in an internship over the summer that the CPA firm she did the internship with has already hired her to a position in the company following graduation in May. Following her junior season, she was named to the Virginia Sports Information Directors Academic All-State Team.

Character

In the words of head coach Joe Verbanic, “Becky is honest, trustworthy, reliable and forthright.  She is always seeking to do what is the right thing – not just for herself but most importantly thinking of the team, her teammates and others.” She has been a leader on the team from the day that she arrived and has been a member of the team leadership council (in lieu of captains).  In the process of trying to build the softball program at George Mason, Anderson was someone who really began to change the face of the program and truly set the direction of what it wants to be - one based in and the development of character and class with high ideals and expectations.

Community

As an active member of Mason’s Student-Athlete Advisory Council for three years, Anderson has been at the forefront of the team and the athletic department’s community service work. Among the activities she has been a part of, Anderson has participated in Letters 4 Kids, Mason’s Victims Rights 5K Fun Run/Walk, the Hunger and Homelessness Action Week Food Drive, and the annual Colonial Athletic Association Blood Challenge. As a member of the Patriots, she has also gone to local elementary schools to read to schoolchildren, and her softball team has hosted a clinic for Girl Scouts. She was a part of the softball team that won the school’s community service award in 2007-08 and finished runner-up in 2008-09. She is always one of the people who can be counted on to be there for a project often changing her own schedule to make sure she is there.

Competition

As the Patriots’ top pitcher who has also found success in the batters’ box, Anderson has twice been named to the All-CAA First Team and was an All-Rookie selection her freshman year. She has appeared in over 100 games in her career as a pitcher, amassing a 2.60 career ERA and 31 career victories, including 56 complete games, with 284 strikeouts compared to just 136 walks. She set a school record in 2008 with 36 appearances, and during her 2009 junior season, was fourth in the CAA in appearances, innings pitched, strikeouts and fifth in opponent batting average (.234). Offensively, Anderson has 75 hits in her career including six home runs.
