An excellent student who was a third-team Academic All-America last year * Named to the All-ACC Academic men’s lacrosse team the last two years and the ACC Honor Roll three times * Majoring in English with a 3.56 cumulative GPA * After he graduates in the spring he will start in a graduate program at Virginia’s McIntire School of Commerce to work toward his Masters of Science in Finance * Has considered going into the Peace Corps after he finishes with school.

Character

* Team captain for the second year year in a row * In 2007 received the Gray-Carrington Award, one of UVa’s highest student honors, for personal integrity, achievement, leadership and humility * Not just a leader on the field, but one of the nicest guys you have ever met off the field. Has been known to clean up the locker room after games, so the team managers won’t have to * Says Coach Dom Starsia, “His subtle touch among his teammates provides a charismatic accessibility shared by only a select few peak athletic performers. Ben has been ‘in the mix’ since his first day on Grounds and he is poised for another outstanding season.”

Community

Has worked at Camp Umoja, a summer camp for inner city children ACE (Athletes Committed to Community and Education), Charlottesville, VA - Teach math and reading to local grammar school students, Spring 2008 Special Olympics 10K Charity Run Volunteer, Charlottesville, VA - Helped raise $8,000 for local Special Olympics, Falls 2004-2007 Ronald McDonald House Volunteer, Charlottesville, VA - Worked at charity event to raise funds for families with hospitalized children, Fall 2007 UVa Children’s Hospital Aid, Charlottesville, VA Fall 2006.
