Classroom

One of the nation’s top baseball student-athletes, Benton Moss attends UNC on the prestigious Morehead-Cain Scholarship and is a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District selection. In February, Moss earned the Weaver-James-Corrigan Honorary Award from the ACC, which is one of the league’s top academic honors.

Character

Moss serves as the Student-Athlete Liaison on UNC’s Faculty Athletics Committee and is a team leader both on and off the field. Despite being drafted in the 15th round of the 2014 MLB Draft, Moss opted to return to school to complete his degree.

Community

Moss coordinates the team’s outreach efforts and has performed the last two years on piano and guitar at UNC’s end-of-the-year athletics celebration. His community service projects include visits to the N.C. Children’s Hospital and the annual Share Your Holiday program.

Competition

Moss is a four-year starter in the UNC weekend rotation. He enters 2015 within range of the top 10 in school history in wins, innings pitched, strikeouts and winning percentage. A standout pitcher all three seasons, Moss was a consensus freshman All-America selection in 2012 (Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Freshman All-America).
