Classroom

A 2012 Texas A&M soccer team captain, West owns a 3.6 GPA at Texas A&M. Her dedication to work in the classroom over the past four years has paid off as she earned her second spot on the Academic All-Big 12 first team in 2011. She also nabbed the honor as a redshirt sophomore in 2010. The senior is also a four-time Texas A&M/Verizon Athletics Scholar, an award given to student-athletes who maintain a 3.0 GPA during the school year.

Character

West’s strong character has been exemplified in her ability to overcome adversity and her courage in assuming leadership roles in different areas of her life. She sustained a season-ending injury as a sophomore in 2009 and experienced hip and back problems because of the original injury. While she continues to battle the pain and numerous treatments, she has improved her game and played with the U-23 team this summer. In 2011 she pushed through physical problems and broke the A&M record for assists in a season with 14. West has become a known leader on the team, both on and off of the pitch. In her already-limited spare time, the 2012 team captain started a team Bible study and continues to lead it.

Community

Always one to give back to the community, West is involved in several non-soccer activities in College Station. While attending church, leading a team Bible study, and participating in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), West volunteers at Youth Soccer Clinics and makes appearances at local elementary schools to talk to kids about health and exercise. She is also involved in Kicks for Cancer at local schools, is part of the Aggie Teammates program, and was a Junior Aggie Club Event Volunteer at Voices for Children. Each year at A&M, West has participated in Big Event, the largest student-run community volunteer program in the nation. She has helped collect cans for local food banks through Aggies Can for the past 3 years and is involved in HOSTS, a program that connects college students to grade-school children through academic tutoring.

Competition

One of the most celebrated Big 12 midfielders, West owns the conference and school record for assists in a season with 14 in 2011. Two of those assists were corner kicks in the 4-0 shutout of LSU during the NCAA First Round in College Station. She was selected to the All-Big 12 first team. West has played in 70 career matches for a combined 4,320 minutes, netting five goals and assisting 26. She has placed 36 of 86 shots on frame and owns one game winner.
