Billy Garrett Jr. is a three-time member of BIG EAST All-Academic Team and was a member of NABC Honors Court.

Character

Garrett is a four-year starter for the men’s basketball team and has represented DePaul at BIG EAST and NCAA events. These events have included the 2014 BIG EAST Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) meeting and the 2016 elite student-athlete symposium put on by the NCAA Leadership Development program.

Community

As a high-level athlete with Sickle Cell Disease he works with kids who have sickle cell and has served as a guest speaker at conventions. Additionally, Garrett works with a variety of annual community service events with the men’s basketball team. Those have included Vincentian Service Days and Misiericordia Candy Days.

Competition

Garrett entered his senior season ranked among DePaul’s all-time leaders in free throw percentage (4th), free throws (8th), assists (15th), three-pointers (19th) and points (34th). He was named the 2014 BIG EAST Rookie of the Year to become just the third player in school history to earn a conference freshman of the year honor. Entering his senior season, he had started 87 of 93 career games while averaging 12.4 points and 3.5 assists per game with 64 career games in double-figures.
