Frohnapfel gradated from Marshall in three years with magna cum laude honors and a 3.65 GPA. He is now a full-time MBA/MS student in UMass’ Isenberg School of Management Mark H. McCormack Department of Sport Management. He earned his bachelor’s degree in finance and economics in May 2014. In 2014 he was a distinguished MAC Scholar-Athlete and a first-team All-Academic selection.

Character

Frohnapfel was born to lead. It’s instinctual for him and makes him a competitive quarterback and a natural leader. He joined the program at a time when UMass was looking for leadership from its upperclassmen. Frohnapfel was new to the team, but his ability to lead and guide others was seamless during his transition, so much so that he was named a team captain as a junior.

Community

At UMass, Frohnapfel is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and the UMass Athletics SAMY Awards Planning Committee, and is a student-representative on the 2015 Director of Athletics Search Committee. He has been a speaker at UMass New Student Orientation and has served as a volunteer at a bone marrow donor registration drive, the Holyoke Boys and Girls Club, Team Impact, local schools, the Special Olympics and at elementary school reading day. While at Marshall, he helped with the Mike Furrey Baskets of Hope project by visiting children in hospitals each Friday as well as food drives, toy drives and at local schools.

Competition

Frohnapfel is a member of the Davey O’Brien Award, Manning Award and Wuerffel Trophy watch lists. He is a Phil Steele Preseason All-MAC First-Team quarterback, an Athlon Sports Preseason All-MAC First Team quarterback and an Allstate AFCA Good Works Team nominee. In 2014 he was an All-MAC First Team quarterback, Phil Steele All-MAC First Team quarterback, an ECAC All-Star, the George H. “Bulger” Lowe Award recipient for the best offensive player in New England), the MAC East Division Offensive Player of the Week (Sept. 29 and Oct. 27) and the ECAC Offensive Player of the Week (Oct. 1).

While at Marshall University, Frohnapfel played in 26 games during the 2012 and 2013 seasons, completing 25 of 55 passes for 386 yards and five touchdowns and rushing for 164 yards, averaging 6.3 yards per carry with two scores. At UMass he started 10 games in 2014 before suffering a season-ending injury, completing 241 of 437 passes for 3,345 yards and 23 touchdowns in the air.
