Working in the major of mathematics, Troyer has a 3.985 GPA through three years, concentrating in actuarial mathematics and stats. Character

From head coach Mark Berson: In 38 years as a NCAA Division I soccer coach, I have had the opportunity to work with some exceptional student-athletes.  Former players have earned postgraduate degrees from the University of North Carolina school of law, Wisconsin school of law, Colorado school of law, the Wharton school of finance at the University of Pennsylvania, London School of Economics, Stanford medical school, the Medical University of South Carolina and others.  I can say without reservation that Braeden Troyer ranks in the top 1% of these young men in terms of his academic and athletic performance and his character. Braeden is an exceptional student-athlete, earning all Conference USA recognition both on the highest honor roll, but also on the field where he has been an all conference selection since his freshman year. Braeden also earned the mathematics medal in his major and has been on an academic scholarship since his enrollment at USC. He is a fine person and a young man of outstanding character.

Community

Troyer has given back many hours teaching youth about the game that brought him to South Carolina, volunteering at outreach clinics on Fort Jackson and with the National Guard as well as fan appreciation clinics throughout the South Carolina Midlands region. Also, in the past year, he’s volunteered at Harvest Hope Food Bank and the Ronald McDonald House as well as helping pack envelopes for a breast cancer awareness event. In total, Troyer’s community service efforts over three years are nearing 40 hours.

Competition

Troyer has been a strong force for the Gamecocks in his three years. He’s earned second-team All-Conference USA honors twice and while garnering both a spot on the third team and the All-Freshman team in 2011. A two-time Capital One Academic All-District 4 and C-USA All-Academic honoree, Troyer also owns an NSCAA Scholar All-South Second Team spot from last year. He ranked second on the team in goals scored in each of his first two seasons at South Carolina before moving to the backline in 2013, where he still netted two goals. The defense last year posted six shutouts, with three coming in league play. His one game-winning goal of 2013 helped the team down rival Charlotte 2-1 in C-USA action. Troyer’s play has helped the Gamecocks win one C-USA title during his tenure. He also captured the team’s MVP award, called the John M. Johnson Memorial Award, last year.
