Classroom

Evans was a 2011 Academic All-Big Ten selection, an honor reserved for letterwinners with at least a 3.0 GPA. She will graduate with a degree in education and spent the fall semester student teaching.

Character

Evans sustained a serious neck injury during a fall game in 2009, putting her return to softball and a typical life in jeopardy. She recovered after spending the next few months rehabbing, staring the first 56 games of the 2010 season. She missed the season finale with a broken arm after being hit by an errant foul ball while in the dugout during Michigan’s Super Regional contest against Tennessee. Evans once again came back from injury for her junior campaign, starting in all 59 contests during the 2011 season.

Community

Evans has been an active member in the community during her four years, helping Michigan raise almost $72,000 for the “Making Strides for Breast Cancer” campaign. She teamed with Amanda Chidester to teach a Zumba class that contributed $2,000 to the Wolverines’ 2011 total. Evans and the Wolverines have also put on the Michigan Softball Academy, raising another $68,000 for breast cancer research the past two years. Evans has also spent her spare time volunteer teaching for low income school districts, coaching a softball team, working at a soup kitchen during the holiday season and tutoring students in need.

Competition

Evans has missed just one game in her three-year career, the final game of the 2010 campaign after breaking her arm in the Super Regional against Tennessee. She was a 2011 NFCA All-America third team selection, batting .411 with a team-best 86 hits and 63 runs. Evans has earned Big Ten honors in all three seasons, including a pair of first-team distinctions in 2010 and 2011. Her career batting average of .363 puts her fourth all-time at Michigan entering her senior year.
