Classroom
Hernandez is on pace to graduate in sociology with a minor in education. He was named a Big West Scholar-Athlete and has been a teacher’s assistant for a “Child Cinema and Education 50” class, which focuses on K-12 education.
Character
One of four seniors on this year’s squad, Hernandez is a team captain who leads by action.
Community
Hernandez volunteers as a coach for the Orange County Halos’ 13-14 year olds. He has also served as a church usher at the Santa Rosa Church and he mentors young baseball players at the UCI Baseball Camps.
Competition
After his junior season, Hernandez was named first-team All-Big West. He hit .322 — including .371 in conference games — and ranked second on the team with 44 RBI and 19 doubles. He also ranked third with 76 hits and totaled four home runs and five stolen bases. During the season he amassed a 10-game hitting streak.
