Classroom

Dotson carries 3.79 GPA with a major in psychology and a minor in biology. Her future plans are to be a physician’s assistant. She was a member of the Lipscomb’s President’s List in Fal1 2010 , Spring 2011, the Lipscomb Academic Honor Roll (3.5 or higher for semester in Fall 2011, Spring 2012, Fall 2012, Spring 2013. She also earned Atlantic Sun Academic All-Conference All-Academic Honors in 2011, 2012, 2013 and was an Atlantic Sun Conference Scholar (completed 48 hours with a GPA higher than a 3.4 in 2012, 2013).

Character

Dotson planned, along with her fellow seniors, and executed a “players only” retreat before the start of preseason practice. In 2010 as a freshman she played behind an All-American setter in Stefine “Jake” Pease and as a sophomore she split time with Abby Fay at setter as team used a new offensive set. She started as a junior and will as a senior, while serving as one of three team captains. She has been part of mission trips to Haiti and Brazil. Her blogs on the Haiti mission trip helped influence Lipscomb volleyball coach Brandon Rosenthal to take the entire team on Brazil mission trip. Rosenthal describes her in this way, “Caitlin is a student. Caitlin is an athlete. Caitlin is a leader. But most of all, Caitlin is a friend that all of the girls can count on. Caitlin’s work ethic is outstanding. One of her best qualities is her ability to follow through on what she says she is going to do. Dot never gives up and always puts the team first. She is willing to do whatever is asked and do it with a spirit that is contagious.In the end Caitlin is one of those special athletes that a coach dreams about. I am a better coach for having been around her.”

Community

This summer Dotson started a new program called Linked Lipscomb. The program, which has started with the volleyball team, is voluntary and helps connect student-athletes connect with mentors in their planned careers. In addition to mentoring the participants in the program also will work with area charities like “Hands-On” Nashville. She has also been involved in clean up of Radnor Lake Nature Area in 2010, was the Tennessee Special Olympics opening ceremonies speaker for 2012 went on a mission trip to Brazil sponsored by Lipscomb and Rotary in 2013 and the Lipscomb Mission trip to Haiti in 2012. She has been part of reading programs for elementary students at Judson school in 2011 and Lipscomb Academy in 2012 and 2013.

Competition

A member of the Atlantic Sun Second Team All-Conference in 2012, Dotson is one of three team captains. She led the Atlantic Sun Conference in assists overall with 1,214, an average of 11.67 per set for 2012 and led the Atlantic Sun in conference play only in assists with 771, an average of 12.05 for 2012. Her 1,214 assists is sixth highest in school history for a season and her 11.67 assists per set is the third highest in school history. She played in all 104 sets as a junior in 2012 and she was third in digs with 280.
