Classroom

Newton is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and one of just two current members of the Purdue team earn that honor. She graduated in December with her degree in psychological sciences and is diligent in her studies.

Character

Newton has faced more adversity than one should have to face. From growing up without a father figure to a personal loss as a young adult, she has overcome every obstacle with grace and strength.

Despite only being recruited by Indiana and Purdue, Newton continuously put in the time and effort into growing her game into the All-America status it has become.

She has also spent her time helping others on the team. Newton is always there for her team members. She doesn’t enjoy helping others while in the spotlight and is always there for the younger players. Newton goes back to the gym after team practices to perfect her craft and checks in with the freshmen, especially as they are trying to adjust to the college life.

Community

Newton is very active in the community, having worked with kids in the past. During her freshman year, she both read to children and taught them volleyball.

During her junior year, Caitlyn also volunteered with the youth through a local YMCA, where she helped them with their homework.

Competition

Newton was a 2019 AVCA and Volleyball Mag All-America honorable mention, All-Northeast Region first-team honoree, and All-Big Ten second team selection.

She became one of 28 Boilermakers in program history to join the 1,000 career kill club and has registered double-digit kills in more than 33 matches in her career. Newton ranks third in the Big Ten in total points and is only growing her numbers as the season progresses.
