Niccum holds a cumulative GPA of 3.353 entering his senior year as a Mechanical Engineering major. He qualified for the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in 2012 and 2013 after finish the fall semesters of 2011 and 2012 with a GPA of 3.20 or higher.

Character

Niccum was selected as Army West Point’s only team captain for the 2015 season. He leads by example and helps set the standard for teammates on the field and in academic and military endeavors. Niccum has shown himself to be a durable player who is rarely substituted out. He was forced to the sideline after suffering a season-ending injury toward the end of last season and worked hard this off-season to rehab and get into playing shape for his senior campaign.

Community

Niccum has volunteered every year with teammates at Army West Point football’s pregame fan fest. At this event, he has interacted with young fans through face painting and a number of soccer demonstrations. Niccum will be joining members of the Army West Point men’s soccer team in visiting patients at the Children’s Hospital of Colorado when the team opens the season with games against Air Force and Denver.

Competition

Niccum has started in all 44 games he has appeared in over his first three seasons. He has contributed to a number of Army West Point defensive records at the center back position, including a school-record 12 shutouts during his sophomore season in 2013. That year, Army West Point finished 12-3-3 and qualified for the Patriot League Tournament for the first time since 1996. Niccum played in and started 15 of Army West point’s 20 games last season, missing the last five due to a season-ending injury. Niccum was selected to the All-Patriot League third team in 2013 after finishing with a career-best three points (1 goal, 1 assist). Niccum has tallied two goals and two assists during his career, while averaging over 92 minutes per contest.
