Candace Gonzales

Classroom

Not only did Gonzales maintain the highest GPA (3.8) among her fellow student-athletes, but she also represents the very best and the brightest among all Georgia State undergraduates. She resides in the top 7% of her academic class at GSU, earning her Phi Kappa Phi status. She is a member of the Key International Honour Society, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and the International Scholar Laureate Program (Journalism and Communications Delegation). Gonzales has earned every academic honor that Georgia State can bestow a student-athlete: Faculty Scholar, Dean’s List, and the CAA Athletic Director’s Honor Roll.

Character

Ms. Gonzales has emerged as the preeminent example of character on the Georgia State women’s soccer team in the past four years. A two-time captain, she has taken her opportunity as a student-athlete to full advantage. She currently sits as the president of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, regularly delivering speeches and leading the student-athlete community in a professional and positive fashion. Ms. Gonzales holds the presidency of the Public Relations Student Society of America, an organization that delivers the confidence and training necessary for students to find connections and success in the Public Relations field. Gonzales volunteers diligently at her local church, maintaining the day care, an activity which she cherishes.

Community

Gonzales stands above all others with her involvement and interest in the community. For her outstanding efforts in the community, Gonzales received the Arthur Ashe Award for community service last year. Candace has donated her time to YMCAs in Georgia and her home state of Texas developing mini-campaigns, writing press releases to encourage membership and donation, and creating media plans for the YMCAs of DeKalb County. Gonzales planned and coordinated the venue, date, sponsors, and all marketing strategies for the Georgia Games in Kennesaw, Georgia in 2008.

Competition

Gonzales has appeared in 55 games in her career, missing only three due to injury. Candace has scored four goals in her career, scoring two already in the Georgia State season opener against Tennessee Tech. Candace has three assists in her career, and is a two-time team captain.
