Canon Rooker is an Academic All-Conference USA honoree. He has been named to the Dean’s List at MT each semester and earned the team’s Junior Academic Award. He was presented the Terry Whiteside Award for excellence in academics, football, strength training, community service and campus activities. He earned Conference USA All-Medal recogntion in 2014, 2015 and 2016 for having a GPA of 3.75 or higher.

Character

Rooker is a remarkable individual who has been a blessing to the team for five years. He can always be counted on, and he’s the ideal student-athlete excelling in the classroom and on the field. Rooker possesses a strong work ethic, is a great teammate and is very competitive.

Community

Rooker works with the following events and organizations: Special Olympics, Murfreesboro City Schools, Boys to Men Mentoring, Reading Raiders, Military Veterans Hospital, Camp Ability with special needs kids, Boys and Girls Club and the Broadmore Senior Citizens Rally. He also is a youth camp volunteer.

Competition

Rooker is a 2017 Lou Groza Award Candidate. In 2016, he was named first-team All-C-USA, voted the C-USA Special Teams Player of the Week on Oct. 24, hit 16 field goals (the fourth most in school history), scored 112 points (the most ever by a MT kicker) and had a stretch where he made nine straight field goals to rank as the second longest streak in school history.
