He has earned a spot on the Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll in each of his four seasons. He has been featured in the UAB Engineering magazine for accomplishments on and off the field. Character

Woszczynski is currently the team captain at UAB - a position he has held for two years. He has also captained the Indiana State Olympic Development Team on two separate occasions (2005 and 2002). He has been named a captain of his team at every level he has played. He has had two knee surgeries during his UAB career. Following his first knee surgery in 2008, he returned the following season (2009) and recorded one of the best seasons in school history by a goalkeeper. That year, he earned first-team all-conference and second-team all-region honors. He had his second surgery in March of 2011, but has recovered and is prepared for his final year at UAB. He is the team’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee representative and is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Community

Woszczynski has volunteered his time in numerous community service efforts. Most recently, he played a big role in helping the Birmingham metro area recover from the devastating tornadoes that struck on April 27, 2011. He has contributed more than 50 hours of service to this cause, doing everything from sorting clothes and food to cleaning up debris in the hardest hit areas. He has also helped raise money in his hometown of Columbus, Ind., for a domestic violence shelter (Turning Point) and Hurricane Katrina victims. Additionally, he has volunteered his time by reading at local elementary schools around the Birmingham area, as well as serving food at local homeless shelters. He uses his athletic talent to help the less fortunate. He collects used soccer equipment, which he sends to Mexico and Africa, something that he has done since the beginning of his high school career (2004). Furthermore, he volunteers as a coach at local clubs, high schools and soccer clinics.

Competition

Woszczynski has been a standout performer on the pitch. He is entering his third season as a starter in the goal for the Blazers. He has twice been named as an all-conference performer, earning first-team honors in 2009 and third-team honors in 2010. He was also an all-region selection in 2010. That season, he turned in one of the greatest single-season efforts by a goalkeeper in school history. Woszczynski set a single-season school record with a 0.83 goals allowed average and recorded a league-leading eight shutouts, which tied for the second-most in school history. His 12 wins on the season also ranked as the sixth-most in program lore. He earned three C-USA Defensive Player of the Week honors in 2010, the most selections in one season of any UAB player in school history. Woszczynski finished the year leading the league in save percentage (.805), shutouts and shutouts per game (0.44). He enters the 2011 campaign with 11 career shutouts, which is fifth on the school’s all-time list.
