Classroom

Casey Hinger is a two-time Big West Conference All-Academic selection. She has earned all-academic honors in both seasons she has been eligible (2012, 2013). She currently carries a 3.89 grade point average as a Psychology/Child Development major at CSUN. She was inducted into the CSUN Varsity “N” for academics in both 2012 and 2013. Casey graduated from Valencia High School in Placentia, Calif. with a 3.95 GPA.

Character

Casey Hinger is going to be a third-year captain for CSUN. Her actions and determination to become the best student-athlete she can make her an easy role model for her teammates to emulate. Casey is not only a leader of our team but a leader of the athletic department. She organizes support for other team’s home contests and is involved in all athlete functions. She leads by example, giving a 100% in practice and the classroom. She sets high standards for herself and her team on and off the court. She holds her teammates accountable if these standards are not being met by requesting extra time in the gym for herself and others and helping her teammates with their classes if needed. She works with the new team members and helps them adjust to college life and their new environment. Casey is a very self motivated and independent young woman. Her strong work ethic and desire to be the best teammate and student-athlete has made her into a well rounded citizen of our society. She has a very bright future.

Community

Casey Hinger has been a mentor for the CSUN Athletic Department helping other athletes with their academic studies. She was a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Council and has been involved with several community service projects such as reading to local elementary students, collecting money for needy families at Christmas, and collecting food for the local food pantry. She has also represented the women’s volleyball team at new student orientation welcoming students and handing out t-shirts.

Competition

Casey Hinger is a two-time AVCA honorable mention All-American and a three-time first team All-Big West selection. She received honorable mention AVCA honors as a sophomore in 2012 as well as 2013 when she helped the Matadors to their first-ever Big West Championship and the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Casey was also honored as a first team AVCA All-Region in both 2013 and 2013. Was named Big West Freshman of the Year in her first season (2011). In 2013, she led the 24-7 Matadors in kills, kills per set, hitting percentage, solo blocks, assisted blocks and total points as a junior. She ranks among the career top-10 in CSUN history in total blocks and block assists and ranks among the top hitters, percentage-wise, in school history. She heads into her senior season in 2014 looking to become the first four-time all-conference player in school history. Casey was also one of 48 collegiate players named to the roster of the U.S. Women’s Volleyball National Senior A2 Program (2013) by USA Volleyball.
