Character

Head coach Mark Krikorian on Short - “Casey is another one of those exceptional student-athletes that we have here at Florida State.  She takes her academics very seriously and has performed admirably on the playing field.  Casey has worked diligently in her studies throughout her time here and will graduate a semester early.  Academics are the most important thing at Florida State as we prepare our student-athletes to be successful for life after soccer.  We also want our student-athletes to be successful athletes, but it is equally important that they are receiving the education and opportunity to excel in both areas – in the classroom and on the playing field.”

Community

Short has registered 35.25 hours of community service volunteering at numerous events in the Tallahassee area.  She served as a peer mentor, was a guest speaker at Pace Center for Girls, participated in a Safety Campus Walk to help improve and identify safety issues around campus, surprised local youths as a guest reader for Drop Everything and Read Day and served as a volunteer coach at numerous soccer clinics.  Short has also supported several local causes including Relay for Life, Breast Cancer Awareness, Dance Marathon-Miracle Family Network and Let Us Play Fundraiser – helping to raise money to endow female athletic scholarships.  She was also a volunteer with Super CPR Day, donated and supported the Can Food Drive sponsored by the Second Harvest Food Bank during Thanksgiving and served as a peer mentor encouraging youth to do well on the statewide test by making handmade FCAT Cards as a means of motivating and inspiring the kids.  In her first three seasons, Short and her Seminole soccer teammates have held a ‘Paint It Pink’ contest to help spread the word and raise money in finding a cure for breast cancer.  The pink jerseys worn for each game have been auctioned off on-line with the proceeds going to Breast Cancer Awareness.
