Classroom

Garcia is an excellent student, majoring in secondary education with an option in mathematics. She is also minoring in Spanish. She has a core 3.972 grade point average. She had a perfect 4.0 GPA until picking up one B last semester. Garcia won the NCAA Elite 88 Award at the Women’s College World Series last season. She was a first-team Academic All-American last season as a junior.

Character

Garcia is one of the most upstanding young women I’ve ever met. She strives for perfection in everything she does, whether its on the field or in the classroom. She’s willing to do any interview I ever ask of her. As evidenced in the community section, she’s extremely interested in making this world a better place for children. Her mother passed away when she was still a teenager, and she has been there for her younger sister as an absolutely terrific role model. In fact, she’s the perfect role model for all girls, and children in general.

Community

Garcia is actively involved in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, which has gotten her involved in several community projects. She has been involved in Angel Tree, collecting gifts for underprivileged kids for Christmas; Hannah’s Promise, a respite care center that watches children with disabilities and their siblings so their parents can have a night off; the United Way canned food drive; she was a Haiti fundraiser volunteer; and plans to work this summer for Kids Across America, working with inner-city girls, teaching them that school is cool.

Competition

Garcia has played shortstop in every single game since her freshman season, a span of 180 games and counting. She was a first-team All-Midwest Region selection as a junior and is a two-time All-Big 12 Second Team choice. She was instrumental in the Cowgirls’ appearance in the Women’s College World Series last May. She ranks in the top 20 in every career offensive statistical category at OSU, and has a chance to move into the top 10 by the end of her senior season.
