Cheyenne Garcia maintains a 3.448 grade-point average while majoring in human development and family science. She is a three-time selection to the Summit League Spring Honor Roll. Garcia was recognized as a Summit League Distinguished Scholar in 2014 and 2015 and named to the Summit League Commissioner’s List in 2015.

Character

Garcia is an unselfish person and has been a leader by example on and off the field throughout her four seasons at North Dakota State. She has started all 149 games at second base, developing into one of the top offensive threats in the Summit League. She has been diligent with her work to improve defensively each year. Garcia is an intense competitor and a great teammate.

Community

Garcia has taken active role in her hometown of Vista, California, and her campus community of Fargo-Moorhead. She volunteered at the Rosewood on Broadway Nursing Home in Fargo during her junior year, where she would play cards and be involved in the residents’ rehab routines and meals. The Bison softball team twice has participated in Special Olympic Hockey with disabled children, where the kids have had the upper hand in sled hockey on both occasions. Bison Athletics hosts a Food Pantry, where each sport attends events to solicit donations. At home, Garcia and her family adopt a child every Christmas and deliver their gifts on Christmas Eve. She also participates in the annual Toy Drive and Blanket Run sponsored by motorcycle clubs with her dad, Paul, and her mom, Gina.

Competition

Garcia was named the 2015 Summit League Player of the Year after hitting .423 with 14 home runs and 55 runs batted in. She led the team with 70 runs scored, 20 doubles, 20 stolen bases and a pair of triples. Garcia was selected to the 2015 NFCA All-Midwest Region and All-Summit League first teams and also was named to the NCAA Eugene Regional and Summit League All-Tournament Teams last season. Her resume also includes All-Summit League Second Team honors in 2013 and 2014, NFCA All-Midwest Region Second Team accolades in 2014 and Summit League All-Tournament honors in 2013. At the start of the 2016 season, Garcia was listed among NDSU career top 10 in home runs (T6th, 25), highest slugging percentage (7th, .586), doubles (7th, 41), runs scored (8th, 150), sacrifice flies (T9th, 5), double plays turned (T9th, 18), runs batted in (10th, 126) and stolen bases (10th, 50).
