Through three years at Duke University, Gray has maintained a 3.569 GPA while majoring in Psychology. She is a three-time member of both the All-ACC Academic Volleyball Team and the ACC Academic Honor Roll. Over the summer, Gray participated in the Nike Duke Leadership program, which provides a leadership experience based in academic inquiry, real world application and ongoing development of leadership skills.

Character

A hard-working, determined and respectful representative of Duke volleyball, Gray is one of the top leaders both on the team and on campus. She has been a First Year A.C.T.I.O.N. mentor for the past three years, serving as an upperclassmen mentor to help first year student-athletes transition to life at Duke. Gray was also part of the Advancing Leaders Program, which prepares juniors to take on future leadership roles within their teams in addition to participating in the Nike Duke Leadership Internship Program over the summer.

Community

Gray is heavily involved in the Durham community and has participated in numerous community service projects during her three years at Duke. She has worked with elderly citizens by playing carpet volleyball at The Forest at Duke, a retirement center in Durham, as well as with kids at Duke’s free volleyball clinic for fourth-sixth graders. She has participated in fundraising efforts for breast cancer awareness, including the volleyball program’s Dig for the Cure nights, where the team hands out ribbons and sells pink items to raise money and awareness for breast cancer research. Lastly, Gray has helped raise money through the Pennies for Points program, which helps raise money for multiple sclerosis research.

Competition

For two straight years, Gray has led the Atlantic Coast Conference in hitting percentage as she ranked eighth nationally with a .396 clip in 2011. Her .396 hitting percentage tied for second in Duke history as she hit .300 or better in 21 of Duke’s 30 matches. One of the top middle blockers in the ACC, she maintained her efficient production while taking a career-high 624 attacks. Gray also amassed a career-high 315 kills and just 68 attack errors, averaging 4.63 kills for every error. She was especially dominant against conference foes, hitting .431 in the 20 ACC matches. Gray was also a member of the All-ACC team.
