Classroom

Christina Clermont will graduate in May on the pre-med track with a degree in molecular biology, and enters her final semester with a cumulative GPA of 3.42. She averages more than 10 hours per week in labs in addition to her coursework and softball responsibilities, and also worked as a research assistant for two years in the Reproductive Research Laboratory on the CSULB campus. Clermont also was a two-time Academic All-Big West selection in her two seasons at the Beach and a nominee for the 2016 Big West Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Character

The senior captain and leader on the LBSU softball team is entering her third year after transferring from Syracuse and is a true leader by example. Responding to an injury to fellow pitcher Cielo Meza, she started every game in the final month of the season for the Beach, leading LBSU to the regionals. She sets high expectations for herself, and her dedication in pursuit of those goals is a great model to follow, continually leading the way in competition, schoolwork, research, conditioning and, finally, in humbleness and graciousness after reaching those high expectations.

Community

Clermont participated in the GIVE program, a Seattle-based organization that combines academics and international service. Spending more than three months in Nicaragua in the summer, Clermont used her background in Spanish to help teach English and basic computer literacy to underprivileged youth. She also has joined in many of the LBSU softball team’s community service efforts in particular with volunteering at Precious Lamb Preschool in Long Beach.

Competition

Clermont is a two-time All-Region selection and two-time first-team All-Big West honoree in her two seasons at Long Beach State, and was also named the Co-Big West Pitcher of the Year in 2015. She has posted back-to-back 20-win seasons and became just the second pitcher in Long Beach State history to record 200 strikeouts in a season last year. She’s twice matched the school’s 7-inning strikeout record with 15, and is one of seven 49ers to throw a perfect game. After just two seasons, Clermont began the 2017 season sixth in career strikeouts at LBSU, and last season led the Big West in both wins and strikeouts.
