Classroom

McKeever was named first team all-Valley Scholar-Athlete in 2009 and honorable mention in 2008. He was named to the AD’s honor roll eight times and to the Dean’s list six times. He has a cumulative GPA of 3.64 and is majoring in biology. His career goal is to be a nurse anesthetist and he is expected to graduate in May 2010.

Character

McKeever came to Wichita State as a raw baseball player and has developed into one of WSU’s best players. He is a quality guy with good character and is an outstanding student. He is dependable, kind and courteous to everyone he meets along with coaches and teammates. He tried to walk on at Oklahoma State as a freshman and after he was cut, he transferred to Wichita State and has become an all-conference player.

Community

McKeever helped with the Koyie Hill’s Big Wish/Make a Wish Foundation Fundraiser. He was a guest kid’s reader at Barnes and Noble. He works the Shocker Baseball Camps to learn to teach children baseball skills and to watch them improve. He read to kids in the Valley’s Just Read program and has volunteered for Big Brothers/Big Sisters. He helped build houses in Greensburg, Kan., that were destroyed by a tornado. A two-time participant in Shocks, Cops and Kids event with the Wichita Police Department and the Wichita Public Schools, McKeever has also participated in the WSU Rock with the Shocks event with the Wichita Public Schools and Wichita Collegiate School Shocker Day. He also volunteered at the Shocker Athletic Scholarship Organization Ice Cream Social.

Competition

McKeever heads into the 2010 season as preseason all-Valley at first base. As a junior, he was named first team all-Valley at first base and a first team all-Valley Scholar-Athlete. He was named the MVC Player of the Week once. For the season, he hit .333 with 34 runs, 72 hits, 18 doubles, one triple, six home runs, 43 RBI and six stolen bases. As a sophomore, McKeever was named second team all-Valley as the designated hitter and an honorable mention all-Valley Scholar-Athlete. He hit .328 with 34 runs, 14 doubles, five home runs, 39 RBI and two stolen bases. He was named to the Stillwater all-Regional Team, hitting the game-winning grand slam in the 10th inning of the Regional championship game.
