Character
Schwan’s work ethic was exemplified by the jump between her sophomore and junior seasons. She had never received any honors through two years and was not on the preseason All-Pac-12 Team, but finished the year winning Pac-12 Player of the Year and was a first-team All-American. She has also made the team and chosen to participate in the USA Volleyball Collegiate National Team the past two summers on trips to China and Europe.
Community
Schwan worked at a Special Olympics clinic in 2016 hosted by Washington to set up event areas and greet athletes on arrival. She has visited the Seattle Children’s Hospital with teammates to spend time with the patients and also visited local schools to teach volleyball clinics to youth ages 5-10.
Competition
Schwan was the 2016 Pac-12 Player of the Year and an AVCA first-team All-American. She has surpassed 1,000 career points and is nearing 1,000 career kills. She helped Washington win Pac-12 titles in 2016 and 2015, reaching the Elite Eight both years.
