Classroom
Gary maintains a 2.97 GPA and is one of the reasons why New Mexico basketball set team GPA records in two of the last four semesters.
Character
Gary is extremely giving of his time. Over the summer he participated in a community center outreach program, and he’s an active participant in the Lobos elementary school reading program. He also spends time at the cancer unit of the children’s hospital, and he is active in Special Olympics.
Community
Gary is a leader for the Lobos. As the only senior on a team with nine underclassmen (out of 13 total players), he is looked upon by the coaches and other players for his on-court leadership, and off the court as well. Gary is a role model and a favorite of young Lobo fans.
Competition
Entering this year, Gary was selected to several publications’ preseason all-conference team. After his junior season, Gary made the All-Mountain West first team as well as the MWC all-defensive team. He’s considered the heart and soul of the Lobos, and he has a chance to become the all-time wins leader as well as just the third Lobo with 1,000 points and 500 assists. New Mexico has gone 76-26 in his first three seasons.
