Classroom

Bracey maintains a 3.56 GPA and is on pace to graduate with honors in economics. After graduation, he will be working at Deloitte & Touche LLP as an enterprise risk services consultant in their business risk group. In 2010 he made first-team ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District.

Character

Bracey was elected co-captain as a senior this year, one of four who will lead the Lions in 2011. “Off the field Dan is very detail oriented and stays on top of his work and is always looking to improve,” head coach Brett Boretti said. “That determination carries over to the baseball diamond as well. He has consistently improved each year he has been at Columbia. He is a captain this year which says a lot about how his peers feel about him. He gives us a great effort every time out and wants to be the best.”

Community

Bracey and his teammates have played a role as mentors to students within the Level the Field program, a non-profit organization founded by a former Columbia women’s soccer player that uses sports as a vehicle to cultivate social skills and develop a work ethic in students. Bracey has participated in a number of clinics with local middle school students, teaching them the finer points of pitching while also answering questions and giving tips about how to succeed as a student-athlete.

Competition

One of the Ivy League’s top pitchers in recent years, Bracey was named second-team All-Ivy League in 2010 after finishing second in the conference in strikeouts, throwing three complete games and posting a 4.8:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio. He has been a key member of Columbia’s weekend rotation since his sophomore year and is poised to build on that role as a senior during the 2011 campaign.
