Dana Powell

Classroom

Powell has a 3.512 GPA as a double-major in business and accounting. She was named to C-USA All-Academic Team as a junior and earned C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll distinction all three years (2009, 2010 and 2011).

Character

Powell was selected team captain by her teammates. She is a vocal leader in practice and matches and treats teammates, coaches, officials and opponents with respect during and after matches.

Community

Powell volunteers with the Interfaith Housing Coalition, an organization that provides transitional housing and support services to homeless families. She helps organize and participates in a clothes drive for the Interfaith Housing Coalition in addition to working with the Get Kidz Fit program in Dallas. She is a proactive participant in National Girls and Women in Sports Day, educating girls about the opportunities for success in athletics. Powell is a leader in the SMU Dig Pink campaign, raising funds and awareness for breast cancer research.

Competition

Powell is a two-time All-America Honorable Mention and First Team All-Midwest Region. She earned First Team All-C-USA after leading SMU to a school record 25 wins in 2010. She was named Second Team All-C-USA in 2009 and ranks sixth all-time at SMU with 1169 digs and eighth with 1164 kills. Powell led the team the past two seasons in kills. She has played in 92 matches and 356 sets in her career. She was named to the COBRA Magazine All-Preseason Team in 2011 and has 193 blocks in her career.
