Classroom

McCray is a two-time member of the Kansas Athletic Director’s Honor Roll, which honors KU student-athletes who achieve a GPA of 3.0 or higher. She currently maintains a 2.83 GPA in communication studies and is expected to graduate in May 2010.

Character

McCray has been voted team captain by her teammates the past two seasons. She has been a member of the Kansas Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Executive Board, as elected by her peers. As a member of the Chancellor’s Advisory Committee on Intercollegiate Athletics, she is one of three KU student-athlete representatives on a university-wide committee that provides input and feedback to the chancellor of the University of Kansas. She was featured this August in the University of Kansas Women of Distinction Calendar which honors outstanding KU women students, staff, faculty and alumnae who have distinguished themselves through outstanding achievement and contributions to KU and/or the community.

Community

McCray has participated in numerous community service projects during her KU tenure including Habitat for Humanity, Crimson and Blue Holiday Project, Jayhawks READ, Emily Taylor Resource Center Arthritis Walk and the Jayhawks’ Holiday Hoops Clinic for Special Olympics.

Competition

On all the player of the year preseason watch lists, McCray earned Honorable Mention All-America honors and was a first team All-Big 12 selection following her junior season at Kansas. She ranked second in the Big 12 and eighth in the NCAA in scoring with 21.6 points per game. She ranked in the top 10 in the conference in 10 different statistical categories. She played for USA Basketball’s World University Games Team during the summer of 2009, helping lead the US to a gold medal. While playing for USA Basketball, McCray scored 12.0 points per game, which ranked second on the team. She was recently named the Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year and a Preseason First Team member in a panel of the league coaches. She ranks ninth on the Kansas all-time scoring list with 1,539 points and is on pace to become just the third player in Kansas history to record 2,000 or more points in a career.
