Xavier’s David West faced the decision not once, but twice. As the Atlantic 10 Player of the Year in both his sophomore and junior seasons he had to make the decision whether to play professionally or to return to Xavier to finish his career and earn his degree. Both times he chose to stay and was rewarded greatly for that decision.

The 2002-03 Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award winner went on to become the National Player of the Year by the Associated Press and the United States Basketball Writers Association his senior season as well being named a part of the All-American First Team. He went on to become the only three time Atlantic 10 Player of the Year in conference history. While leading Xavier to a 26-6 record he averaged 20.4 points and 11.8 rebounds per game on his way to becoming the only player in Atlantic 10 history to score 2000 points and grab 1000 rebounds. Following the basketball season, West earned his degree in Communication Studies and had his number 30 retired at the Cintas Center in Cincinnati where it now resides in the rafters.
