Deirdre Naughton

DePaul University

Secondary Education - Social Science

Naughton begins her senior season with a 3.235 grade point average. She is a two-time All-BIG EAST Academic Team selection and a three-time Athletics Director Honor recipient. She earned Dean’s List honors in four quarters and is currently doing observation hours for her teaching degree.

With aspirations of becoming a teacher, Naughton looks forward to motivating adolescents through classroom activities and athletics.  Along with teaching, Naughton would like to coach youngsters, as sport has shaped her own character, giving her confidence and promoting a healthy life style.

As a sophomore Naughton helped organized a Lenten food and clothing drive with a former teammate.  The pair collected canned goods and apparel and donated it to the St. Vincent DePaul Center.  As a member of DePaul’s Captains’ Council, Naughton has been part of DePaul’s initiative to make sack lunches for the homeless. She has helped feed the homeless at DePaul’s soup kitchen and participated in neighborhood community service projects.  As a member of the women’s basketball team, she has participated in Misericordia Candy Days.

Naughton is on the 2009 preseason John R. Wooden List and Wade Watch List as well as a preseason Sporting News third-team All-American. She was a 2009 Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American, a finalist for the State Farm All-American Team and a second team All-BIG EAST selection. She was named to the BIG EAST Weekly honor roll twice as a junior. She enters her senior season with 1,399 points, 333 assists, 178 3-pointers and 462 rebounds. She has recorded double figures in scoring in 77 of her 91 career games (85 percent).
