Character

“Devon (Dageford) is a coach’s dream,” Louisiana Tech head coach Wade Simoneaux said. “He is a very hard worker and a real humble guy who won’t let awards get to his head.  He is very deserving of any honor he receives.”

Community

Dageford has been a large part of the Ruston community ever since he stepped on the Louisiana Tech campus in the fall of 2008. Dageford and the team have been very active with the Lions Club as they held a BBQ for the organization this year. The Lions Club says, “When it comes to meeting challenges, our response is simple: We serve” and that is just what Dageford has been doing. In addition to helping with the Lions Club, he has played a major role in the past two Methodist Children’s Home Christmas parties in Ruston. Also Dageford is very involved with the community outreach program, which includes reading to local elementary school students and putting on a Halloween carnival on the university’s campus for the children in the community.

Competition

In 2009, Dageford was a second team NCBWA All-American, first team All-WAC, WAC All-Tournament team and first team All-State. He is a 2010 NCBWA Preseason first team All-American. As a junior, Dageford set new school records in both single-season home runs and total bases with 23 and 168, respectively. He concluded his first season in the WAC by leading the league in slugging percentage (.862) and placing second in home runs (23) during all games.  Dageford also led Tech with 68 RBI and recorded an impressive .385 batting average as he was the team’s triple crown winner, leading the Bulldogs in HRs, RBI and batting average. He was no slouch in the field either as he only recorded two errors in 51 games started in the outfield.
