Espinosa completed his undergraduate degree in corporate communication in the summer of 2014 and is also earning a real estate certificate from UT’s McCombs School of Business. He has been named to the UT Athletics Director’s Honor Roll and the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll three times and was a 2011 second-team Academic All-Big 12 selection.

Character

Espinosa is a member of The University of Texas Cowboys, a campus service organization that fosters positive relationships among all members of The University community with leadership, character, spirit and service. On the field, Espinosa is one of the most respected leaders on the team, including the primary leader of the offensive line and is responsible for all of the calls on the line, bringing them together as a unit. He also helped initiate a book club among the offensive linemen last season where they read classic novels.

Community

Espinosa has done number projects as a member of the Texas Cowboys, including assisting with Explore Texas, which introduces kids to the campus and programs at The University of Texas, and also organizes a spring barbecue and concert that raises money for charity. Outside of the Cowboys, he has participated in several community projects with the team including visits to the Dell Children’s Medical Center. He also volunteered his time with the American Heart Association and participated in the TexasTHON, which raised money for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, including the Dell Children’s Medical Center.

Competition

A fifth-year lineman, Espinosa is a member of the watch lists for the 2014 Rimington Trophy, Outland Trophy and Rotary Lombardi Award, along with being on the 2013 Rimington watch list. He has played in 39 career games, all starts at center over the last three seasons. His 39 straight starts are the most of any returner for the Longhorns. Espinosa earned honorable mention All-Big 12 honors in 2013 after helping the offense rank 36th nationally in rushing (196.2 yards per game), and aiding the line in surrendering just 16 sacks (1.3 pg), which ranked tied for 17th fewest in the FBS. In 2012, helped the Horns post the 23rd-best scoring offense in the country (35.7 ppg) and rank 40th in total yards (434.6 pg), as well as allowing just 4.1 tackles for loss per game (No. 3 in the FBS) and 1.23 sacks (22nd in FBS). In his redshirt freshman year of 2011, he started in all 13 games and was named to the Yahoo! Sports Freshman All-America Second Team. He was key for an offense that averaged 202.62 rushing yards and 392.54 yards of total offense per game. The rushing offense ranked 21st nationally.
