Porter, who graduated in May of 2020, carried a 3.5 GPA in the prestigious S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. During his academic career, Porter has earned 2020 USILA Scholar All-American, 2019 All-ACC Academic Team, and four ACC Honor Roll accolades.

Pursuing completion of his graduate program, he earned a 4.0 GPA in his first semester this fall.

Character

Porter has been voted as a team captain by his peer for this season. During his time at Syracuse, he has always been extremely generous in spending time with young fans.

Following the COVID-19 season that was shortened, one young fan messaged him expressing his sadness that the season was over so soon and how much of a fan he was. Porter left a stick on his front porch when moving out of his college home and messaged the young fan back to come pick it up to have as a token of his appreciation for the support.

Community

Porter is involved in Team Impact, where the Syracuse team ‘adopted’ a teammate with cystic fibrosis as an honorary teammate. They have gone to his treatments, participated in a cystic fibrosis walk, and taken him out for special events to make him feel like part of the team.

Porter and his teammates also are part of the Headstrong Foundation’s annual LaxStache Madness, which raises money for the HEADstrong foundation. The foundation offers financial, residential, and emotional support to families affected by cancer.

Competition

During his career at Syracuse, Porter has garnered many accolades. Leading the ACC in save percentage in two-straight seasons, he has received 2019 All-ACC, 2020 second team All-America, and 2021 preseason All-America honors.

Prior to the season ending early last year, he was on the Tewaaraton Award Watch List.

Porter enters the 2021 season as a three-year starter, just the seventh three-year starter at goalie for Syracuse since 1960.
