Elizabeth Wood is the reigning America East Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She is a two-time America East Women’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, two-time member of the America East All-Academic Team, three-time member of the America East Commissioner’s Honor Roll, the recipient of the Maine Scholar-Athlete Silver Medal, a three-time UMaine Presidential Scholar, the Maine Dean Smith Award Winner for the top female student-athlete and the recipient of the School of Biology and Ecology Academic Award for the highest GPA in the class within the school department. Wood has made the Dean’s List every semester so far.

Character

A true leader, Wood is an America East NCAA SAAC Rep, a two-time WBCA Good Works Team nominee and the UMaine SAAC President. She was named to the AE Helping Hands Team 2015.

Community

An active community-minded servant, Wood started an anti-hazing poster campaign to combat hazing acts on campus. She participated in Christmas present wrapping to raise money for Ronald McDonald House, and she oversees the coordination of school visits, cooking dinners at Ronald McDonald House, Toys for Tots, and a soap drive for the local homeless shelter. Wood also organized an under-21 homecoming tailgate for all students and as the SAAC liason with the student government, she works with the Honors College Advisory Board. She has served Thanksgiving dinner to the homeless at Manna in Bangor, visits schools bi-monthly to read to students and volunteers with Special Olympics.

Competition

Wood has a long list of honors stemming from her career at Maine including the following: America East First Team (2014-15), America East All-Defensive Team (2013-14, 2014-15), America East Co-Defensive Player of the Year (2014-15), America East Fans’ Choice Pre- and Post-Season Player of the Year (2014-15), America East Second Team (2013-14), America East Co-Rookie of the Year (2012-13) and America East All-Rookie Team (2012-13). Through her first three seasons, she had amassed 17 double-doubles, four America East Player of the Week honors and six America East Rookie of the Week nods. She scored her 1,000th career point on Feb. 8, 2015, vs. Hartford and notched a career-high 30 points against Vermont on January 22, 2015. She is a two-time Black Bear Thanksgiving All-Tournament Team member and the tournament MVP of 2014. In 2013, she also received Brown Tournament All-Tournament Team honors.
